From Monday 11 April, patients will receive a phone call, automated voice message or text message a few days before their planned appointment to confirm the details, with an option to confirm, cancel or rearrange their appointment. At the beginning of the call patients will be asked to confirm their date of birth to ensure the reminder service remains completely confidential.
The new service not only acts as a reminder, but provides patients with the opportunity to reschedule if the appointment time or date isn’t convenient or cancel if it is no longer needed. This enables cancelled slots to be easily re-allocated leading to maximised clinic capacity and significant efficiency improvements.
Every year, thousands of appointments are wasted when patients are unable to attend costing millions of pounds, the new reminder service aims to reduce ‘Did Not Attend’ (DNAs), save valuable resources and reduce patient waiting times.
