EMIS Care launches new reminder service for Diabetic Eye Screening appointments

08 Apr 2016

EMIS Care is launching a new reminder service for patients in the South West London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme to help reduce the number of missed appointments.

From Monday 11 April, patients will receive a phone call, automated voice message or text message a few days before their planned appointment to confirm the details, with an option to confirm, cancel or rearrange their appointment. At the beginning of the call patients will be asked to confirm their date of birth to ensure the reminder service remains completely confidential.

The new service not only acts as a reminder, but provides patients with the opportunity to reschedule if the appointment time or date isn’t convenient or cancel if it is no longer needed. This enables cancelled slots to be easily re-allocated leading to maximised clinic capacity and significant efficiency improvements.

Every year, thousands of appointments are wasted when patients are unable to attend costing millions of pounds, the new reminder service aims to reduce ‘Did Not Attend’ (DNAs), save valuable resources and reduce patient waiting times.

Kevin McDonnell, Managing Director of EMIS Care said:

“We continuously investigate opportunities to improve the services provided to patients. We are delighted to be working with Leeds-based specialist healthcare provider, ERS Connect, to implement this reminder service which will not only reduce the number of missed appointments, but will allow us to improve the quality and availability of our services.”

Chloe Normington, Group Commercial Manager at ERS Connect, says:

“We’re really pleased to be working closely with EMIS Care and look forward to helping them drive down the number of missed appointments as well as improve patient satisfaction.”
